Skyline Office Center was conceived as a forward-looking mixed-use development in the heart of San Francisco—an environment defined by seismic sensitivity, dense urban constraints, and high architectural expectations. The project demanded not only structural robustness but also exceptional spatial flexibility to support industrial and office functions within a single integrated system.

Special Architectural Requirements

Located in San Francisco, Skyline Office Center faced the compounded challenges of high seismic demand, dense urban surroundings, and a mixed-use program combining industrial and office functions. The structural system was required to deliver robust seismic performance while maintaining large, adaptable floor plates and strict drift control. Urban site constraints further limited construction flexibility, placing pressure on both system clarity and execution efficiency.

Seismic-first structural integration

Struttica engineered the structure with seismic behavior as the primary design driver. The lateral load–resisting system was carefully configured to provide strength, stiffness, and ductility while preserving spatial openness and functional adaptability. Structural elements were strategically positioned to control drift and torsional response without encroaching on usable space. The gravity system was coordinated with the lateral framework to ensure clear load paths and efficient force transfer, supporting both industrial loading requirements and office-level comfort standards.
